Why For Mamas…I was drawn to the board of For Mamas by the organization’s approach to international public health—one that centers partnership, equity, and local leadership. Why For Mamas…”I am honored to Join For Mamas Board because of the privilege and opportunity to support the For Mamas work in Zanzibar; offering education, resources, advocacy and hope to healthcare providers and women. This work amplifies the importance of collaboration and partnership that focuses on safe and effective care of infants in their first hours of life outside of the womb, and empowers the nursing workforce to continue serving as trusting leaders and allies to women around the world!”

Gina Wilson, is a nurse practitioner and the founder of For Mamas, dedicated to reducing neonatal mortality in Zanzibar, Tanzania. This work was inspired by a baby who had difficulty breathing at birth in Tanzania that Gina was caring for. Her doctoral work focused on this, she then launched the non-profit, which has since trained over 380 nurse-midwives and provides reusable neonatal resuscitation supplies to 70+ clinics. Gina also works as a nurse practitioner in pediatrics and serves on the American Academy of Pediatrics Global Neonatal Advisory Committee. Her commitment to improving global health outcomes is driven by a passion to ensure that every baby has a chance to survive.

Why For Mamas…”As a Zanzibari mother told me, "For Mamas must keep going." And that is exactly what we will do. We will continue to honor the plea of mothers by responding with a listening ear and a thoughtful approach.”
